10, 000 Projects

We had all the Gr 4 classes work on 10,000 projects and then took some time to share our thinking with a Ms. Waddington's and Mrs. Hamaguchi's class. We gave the students a few guiding questions:

  • How big is 10,000?
  • What does 10,000 look like?
  • How many different ways can you show 10,000?
The project allowed the students to explain / show how they would count their chosen 10,000 items. We were looking for the different math strategies and language that kids would use to solve / inquire into what it would take to get to 10,000. This project not only promotes creativity but also reinforces a variety of math concepts we have been working on. The kids all had a good time working on and explaining their thinking and helping each other find solutions to their given problems.
